Portfolio Showcase and Oral Presentations
Participating classes are encouraged to hold a showcase hearing for their Project Citizen. This format provides students with an
opportunity to gain knowledge of how public policy is formulated. Some New Jersey schools participating in Project Citizen have been
successful in having their projects become public policy. Classes are encouraged to enter their project and oral presentation in the yearly
Project Citizen Statewide Portfolio Showcase. At the showcase individual school projects and oral presentations are shared with other
schools and judged by panels of educators and public policymakers.

Assistance in the preparation of the portfolio and simulated public hearing can be provided by the New Jersey Center for Civic and Law Related Education.
The project that earns first place is displayed in the New Jersey Statehouse and sent to be displayed at the National Project Citizen
Portfolio Showcase held at the annual meeting of the National State Legislators.
The 2009-2010 New Jersey State Project Citizen Portfolio Showcase and Oral Presentation will be held on May 26, 2010 at Busch
Campus Center, Rutgers University, Piscataway, NJ. Middle school classes will present traditional four-part poster portfolios and three-ring binders.
High school classes may present their portfolios in a digital format such as a DVD, powerpoint, website or other format that can be displayed
digitally. A three-ring binder is still required.
